167. OKINAWA CAME TO TOWN
Hosting a guest from Okinawa gave me a reason and excuse to get off my butt to resume my walkabouts of interesting places in Singapore.
Good sport! Tasting durian for the very first time - she plunged right in...
A Makassar brass chest - an exhibit that got my attention during a quick drop-in into the Malay Heritage Center...
...and a Bugis royal arm circlet - beautifully made...
The Sultan Mosque is looking smart after several facelifts, I arrived at the right time to enter the place. There were local guides to explain and answer questions and a small exhibition about Islam and early arrivals of muslim immigrants to our shores
Men with shorts were required to cover up with these 'skirts' which billowed in the wind making it look comical
Over at the Indian Heritage Center these are the more interesting installations.
This piece on the left show clay cups used by rubber tappers given a bright new colourful look. I like the above Islamic calligraphy
Romantic spiral staircases
...and this beautiful brass and glass display container...
Up for demolition - the muslim graveyard in the vicinity of Bugis. I take one last look at the area

The Peace Memorial, commonly referred to as the Chopsticks Memorial as its 4 pillars represented the 4 major races...
Japan's Occupation of countries in Asia were expunged from their history books and their people's consciousness. She saw for herself that it did take place...
