213. CHANGI BEACH INTERTIDAL EXPLORATION and SELETAR AEROSPACE PARK
With most Park Connectors (PCN) ready or nearly ready, it's possible to walk, jog, cycle, skateboard, across the island in all directions. My walks over the past year took me to a good many PCNs...I shall do more when I get a motorised scooter (cheat sheet)!
Ahoy there! Raffles Loh and the Missus just landed or could that be a distant Asian relative of Robinson Crusoe...?
...Shadowplay...
Cross the bridge when you come to it - this bridge connects Changi beach and its park to Changi Village where the eating places are. The shops here are the old style public housing sort, quite quaint but don't know how long they'll stay vintage with the owners ageing...
The jetty is where boats take day trippers and residents across to Ubin Island and the Chek Jawa Wetlands (Post 203) A walk on the boardwalk of the latter is nice...it cuts through a wide area of the wetlands and through the mangrove 'forests'...
It's nice to see such a large coconut grove on mainland Singapore. Most are now sighted on the Southern Islands (post 200) and another island Pulau Hantu (Post 208)
The Singapore Armed Forces has a large camp across on Tekong Island and this Cafhi Jetty is for their exclusive use...

This same week found me in a corner of Singapore which is off the beaten path for most. It's quiet, deserted in parts, quaint, almost rural if it weren't for the large colonial black and white houses...several of which had domestic chickens in the compound...
The North East is where Seletar Airport is, it's Aerospace Park and it's green lung smack in the middle of this 'town' is the Hampstead Wetlands Reserve...
A former British Royal Airforce stronghold, as well as the Japanese Army, it's now home to a Malaysian domestic carrier, private airplane companies and the airport where wealthy individuals park their aircrafts...
There's a nice park next to the airport where one may while away one's time watching aircrafts land and take off which is not happening with Covid disrupting travel. Still, a quiet picnic is nice and simply contemplate...
A rare sight - hardly a soul around - perhaps it's the wet weather as it was threatening to rain. Rain it did, a light one so the walk could continue but some pictures turned out as grey as the gloomy sky...
Some well-known names in the industry have made their homes in the Seletar Aerospace Park.
A pit-stop by the side of the airport was this bicycle themed cafe, a must-stop for serious big-time cyclists. For my group, it offered a brief respite from the rain...
Smack in the middle of this estate is this wetlands...when the water lilies are in bloom, it's quite a sight...
Outside the Aerospace Park is this waterfront, the Lower Seletar Reservoir, across this narrow strip of water is Malaysia...as a security measure, this fishing village is fenced by a very high fence and large cameras. Apparently, the 4 homes here are privately owned, each with their own jetties but there's just one that's named - Jenal Jetty... The village is closed to walk-ins, private tours are arranged by an online agency...It was a grey overcast day, my pictures turned out gloomy but some taken by fellow walkers were quite nice. It's a popular spot for cyclists to stop by to watch the sun set and some pictures with the bare trees were quite spectacular From this village, a 20min walk away is the Yishun Dam and it's park, Rowers Bay |
