226. LAND BENEATH THE WIND - SABAH

The 4095m tall Mt Kinabalu, synonymous with Sabah - its capital city is Kota Kinabalu...

Kota Kinabalu is not a bustling busy city clogged with traffic, so it's still nice to move around on foot

The retro looking Sabah Museum and its centerpiece - what's left of a whale...

A population of many different tribal communities, generally peaceful although at one time, certain indigenous tribes were well known to be headhunters, were hunters gatherers, adept at blowpipes...

A similar population make-up exists in the next door state of Sarawak. These 2 states, Sabah and Sarawak are the largest states in Malaysia. Today, its people are well assimilated...with a fairly large number of Filipino descent...

It was hot and humid in the lowlands so head for the hills! Stopped at this tea resort which provided accommodations in cottages or a longhouse...

On a chilly evening, a campfire's the way to go...Campfire's burning, draw nearer! Don't burn me at the stake...!

Enjoyed a variety of accommodations that was varied and interesting.

While others savored BBQ wild boar, I settled for a coconut drink...

Fresh off the boat!

Such a sign on nudity is directed at only a small segment of visitors...we know who they are...the sort who bared their behinds and peed on Mt Kinabalu...

In such small rural towns, I see ancient signboards in which the Chinese characters are read right to left. What caught my attention were those metal collapsible gates with those light and airholes I've not seen for the longest time...Like!

It rained quite a bit but nothing torrential which made it safer as we were on the roads up into the hills and back down again. It's a mountainous state with large forested areas, they must get plenty of rain...

With each passing shower I got to see rainbows

Somewhere over that rainbow is Kundasang...!

The Kundasang War Memorial has a nice garden...

The Kinabalu Pine Resort is aptly named - nice place...

Kinabalu Park together with Poring Hot Springs is wild and beautiful. The hard part is the climb and trek to get to the Canopy Walk...

This Park is what a typical rainforest is like - cool, wet and mossy...wild not contrived...

A collection of brooks inside this rainforest

Poem - The Brook by Alfred Lord Tennyson

This Journey called  Life -  the gist of my blog

Fish spa out in the wild - nipping at my heels!

After several attempts to view the Rafflesia in West Malaysia I get to finally see them up close, and they're beautiful. I saw them in seed, bud, flower form and dying and it's a pair...magnificent specimens...

Some pictures contributed by fellow travellers...Alec, Jimmy, Wah Seng...

More Swastikas spotted in a Kuan Yin and Buddhist temple

Reclaim the Swastika! The beautiful Swastika (Svastika in Sanskrit) a spiritual symbol
